Joint Usage and Joint Research Center

International Research Center for Multiple Collaborations in Humanities

In 2010, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Kyoto University’s Institute for Research in Humanities commenced service as a Joint Usage and Joint Research Center. It newly provides funding for collaborative research projects to researchers outside of the Institute.

Over the 80 years since its founding, the Institute for Research in Humanities has achieved original outcomes in various fields of humanities. Based on this tradition, the Institute will continue to promote collaborations between researchers in humanities and other related fields. The ultimate goal of the Joint Usage and Joint Research Center is to promote studies of the generation, transformation and interaction of multiple cultures from global perspectives based on the outcomes of basic studies in humanities, and to present academic findings that can contribute to harmonious coexistence of multiple cultures and societies around the globe.
