The history of 20th century China, whether good or bad, has been written under the dictates of the political parties which have an ideological mindset of the revolutionary. They not only had their own self-centered narratives of the modern history, but also collected and compiled historical materials concerned to reinforce their narratives. The problem is, however, that they often made the falsifications when they edited those source materials into the official documents. Because of this, we should understand how their narratives were formed along with the compilation of the historical materials in the century. In this research seminar, we shall investigate and restore various source documents which has been considered to be the basic materials in each area of modern China, such as politics, revolutionary movement, literature, art and so on. This type of research, which makes full use of original sources scattered around the world to revive the primary documents of twentieth-century China, would open the way for us to have a refreshing understanding of how the modern Chinese history really was.
